DIVING: Zhuliang yet to decide

NATIONAL diving coach Yang Zhuliang will reject any new offer if the National Sports Council (NSC) does not meet his demands.

Zhuliang's contract ends on Oct 31 and the NSC has offered him a two-year extension with an option to renew for another two years.

It is believed that Zhuliang is currently paid about US$5,000 (RM15,500) a month but if the 48-year-old signs a new deal with NSC, he is likely to earn US$7,000 (RM21,700) a month.
"I have not agreed to anything. I need to screen through the offer before penning my commitment.
"I want to make that my demands are met. Am I supposed to decide by Wednesday (tomorrow) ... I have no idea as no deadline was given to me," said Zhuliang yesterday.

Zhuliang admitted that Australia Diving wants him as its high performance director. The association approached him during the recent World Junior Championships in Adelaide.

"Yes, Australia Diving did speak to me about the offer but I did not make any commitments," Zhuliang claimed.

The China-born coach is said to be in two minds but any decision he makes he will have to take into consideration his daughter's education.

Zhuliang currently spends RM70,000 for his only child's education a year in a private school with the figure set to increase as she will start college soon.

Should Zhuliang accept the high performance job, his daughter's education will be free as he is an Australian citizen.

He had stated before that it was normal for a coach of any sport to consider other options after a four-year Olympic cycle and he could be waiting for the right offer before committing himself.
Zhuliang returned to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday after conducting a one-week coaching stint in Wellington, New Zealand.

He is preparing the national divers for next month's Asian Championships in Dubai but should he leave, the task will be given to assistant coach Huang Qiang.

"After listening to the recording of the post-match press conference, we decided to drop the charge against Rajagopal as he did not make such a statement. "Maybe his (Rajagobal) assessment and comments of the match was misconstrued by the media. There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
