PRIMERA LIGA STAR: Getafe’s Guiza to re-ignite team

SPANISH striker Daniel Guiza will be turning out for Johor next season. This was confirmed by Johor FA president Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim yesterday.

Guiza, 32, who currently plays for Getafe CF in Primera Liga and is valued at RM6.3 million, will be in Johor Baru tomorrow to meet fans at a leading hotel upon arrival, via Singapore's Changi Airport.
Tunku Ismail, who declined to reveal Guiza's "purchase price" and the transfer fee, said that Guiza is worth every single sen.

He also said it is high time for Johor to recapture their glory days of the 80s when there were more than 30,000 supporters each time the players took the field.

Tunku Ismail, who was talking to reporters at his palace in Bukit Pelangi, said to achieve that the first change will be the team's name, in order to create a sense of patriotism.

Johor Football Club will be known simply as Johor next season following a name change that has been submitted to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for approval.

"It is the state team after all, and we owe it to the fans who have been supporting Johor all these years. We must deliver the best," said Tunku Ismail.

Johor's home ground will be the Stadium Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos in Johor Baru or better known as Larkin Stadium.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 30,000, is presently undergoing massive renovation which is expected to be completed in early January.

He said former JFC foreign players will be allowed to leave as JFC failed to fulfil their target of finishing being among the top five in the recent Super League.

He added among the new sign-ups in the Johor team next year include defender Mohd Azmi Muslim (Armed Forces), twins Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak and Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak (Armed Forces) and Muslim Ahmad (Terengganu).

Tunku Ismail also confirmed that the Johor head coach will be former international Fandi Ahmad, while the Johor Football Association (JFA), which will absorb former JFC players, will see Azmi Mohammad as coach and will compete in the Premier League.
