SPANISH striker Daniel Guiza will be turning out for Johor next season. This was confirmed by Johor FA president Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim yesterday.

Guiza, 32, who currently plays for Getafe CF in Primera Liga and is valued at RM6.3 million, will be in Johor Baru tomorrow to meet fans at a leading hotel upon arrival, via Singapore's Changi Airport.
Tunku Ismail, who declined to reveal Guiza's "purchase price" and the transfer fee, said that Guiza is worth every single sen.

He also said it is high time for Johor to recapture their glory days of the 80s when there were more than 30,000 supporters each time the players took the field.

Tunku Ismail, who was talking to reporters at his palace in Bukit Pelangi, said to achieve that the first change will be the team's name, in order to create a sense of patriotism.

Johor Football Club will be known simply as Johor next season following a name change that has been submitted to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for approval.

"It is the state team after all, and we owe it to the fans who have been supporting Johor all these years. We must deliver the best," said Tunku Ismail.

Johor's home ground will be the Stadium Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos in Johor Baru or better known as Larkin Stadium.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 30,000, is presently undergoing massive renovation which is expected to be completed in early January.

He said former JFC foreign players will be allowed to leave as JFC failed to fulfil their target of finishing being among the top five in the recent Super League.

He added among the new sign-ups in the Johor team next year include defender Mohd Azmi Muslim (Armed Forces), twins Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak and Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak (Armed Forces) and Muslim Ahmad (Terengganu).

Tunku Ismail also confirmed that the Johor head coach will be former international Fandi Ahmad, while the Johor Football Association (JFA), which will absorb former JFC players, will see Azmi Mohammad as coach and will compete in the Premier League.

Malaysian junior athletes are just too ‘lembik’

Saya setuju. We are working on more coaches! “ @ManOlimpik : Malaysian junior athletes are just too ‘lembik’ http://t.co/7D7wmHWaNy ” — Khairy Jamaluddin (@Khairykj) June 10, 2014 The benchmark. Can our junior athletes train as hard as Malaysia's world No.1 badminton player, Lee Chong Wei? “IT IS okay lah. The training is not too bad lah. I will try lah … Wah, so hard lah today.” These are some of the common statements I hear from our juniors nowadays. It is not only in badminton. It is the easy-going, laid-back attitude and lack of competitiveness at grassroots level that we have problems producing quality players. I have travelled quite a bit. After ending my decade-long career with the national team, I went to play in the league in Europe. It’s different there. The European athletes know what they want. And they do it with real focus. Even the young ones possess admirable self-control and show a high level of commitment. During my time in the ...

Organising Major Sports Events Can Inspire Sports Culture Among The People - Khairy

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (Bernama) -- Organising major sports events can help inspire sports culture among the people and ensure a healthy lifestyle said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Khairy said the Tour of Malaysia cycling race organised since 1963, for example, can encourage more people to take the sport in a more competitive way or just for recreation purposes. "A study carried out by a world renown medical journal, The Lancet, revealed that 61 percent of adults in Malaysia do not engage themselves in active sports. "A study by the Health Ministry revealed that only 25 percent of Malaysians exercise," he said in his speech when launching the 2013 Tour of Malaysia (Jelajah Malaysia) at the Youth and Sports Ministry, here, Wednesday. "Cycling, though not as popular here as in countries like Denmark, the activity is becoming popular among the people as can be seen through an increase in sale of bicycles for recreation," he sa...
