JOHOR BAHARU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Former Lazio striker Simone Del Nero
has impressed Johor coach Fandi Ahmad and team management with his
performance during a friendly match Wednesday.
Fandi Ahmad, a former Singapore striker turned coach said though the former Italy Serie A player's fitness level has not reached 100 percent since recovering from injury, Del Nero was able to show his creativity and quality.
"Del Nero gave a good account of himself in midfield with good vision, passing and creativity to set up Johor strikers to score goals in the friendly match," said Fandi, a prolific striker himself.
In the match played at the Larkin Stadium in front of about 7,000 fans, Johor beat Singapore Malays Football Club 4-0.
Del Nero, 31, who had played for Italy's Under-21 national side when Italy won the European Under-21 title, was the second foreign player signed by Johor after Daniel Guiza, a former Primera Liga player in Spain.
Just like Del Nero, Guiza was also a former Spanish international who had won the golden boots award for the 2007/2008 season as leading goal scorer.
