Star-Studded Johor Darul Takzim Come Back From Brink Of Defeat To Beat Kedah On Penalties

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Star-studded Johor Darul Takzim had to come back from the brink of defeat to book a place in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup competition by beating Kedah 5-4 on penalties at the Darul Aman Stadium, Tuesday night.

Johor, trailing 0-2 in the first half and 1-2 until the final minutes of the match, not only managed to salvage the match in regulation time and extra-time but went on to win the penalty shootout to the dismay of the Kedah fans.

Kedah have only themselves to blame for the defeat as the Premier League outfit had been in the driving seat for almost the entire match before the star-studded Johor managed to pull off a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Kedah took a 2-0 lead through Mohd Khyril Muhymeen's brace in the 8th and 21st minutes while Johor import Danial Guiza cancelled the advantage in the 69th and 89th minutes.

Johor are expected to meet Selangor who had already qualified after beating Sabah 3-0 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Feb 12.

Pahang moved into the quarterfinals in style by whipping Tentera Darat FC 7-1 at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan with goals from R. Gopinathan (14th), Azamuddin Akil (23rd, 25th, 48th pen, 68th), Faizol Hussin (37th) and Mohamed Borji (85th pen) while Tentera Darat scored a consolation goal in the 65th minute from the penalty spot through Faizal Hamzah.

Sarawak booked their spot by beating Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP FC) 2-0 at the State Stadium in Kuching with goals from Azizan Baba (31st) and Bobby Gonzales (57th).

Two times FA Cup champion Negeri Sembilan also advanced after edging Pos Malaysia 2-0 at the Selayang Stadium while Terengganu convincingly beat Penang 3-0 to earn their spot.

At the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, Sime Darby FC scored a narrow 1-0 win over T-Team to book their berth.

Malaysian junior athletes are just too ‘lembik’

Saya setuju. We are working on more coaches! “ @ManOlimpik : Malaysian junior athletes are just too ‘lembik’ http://t.co/7D7wmHWaNy ” — Khairy Jamaluddin (@Khairykj) June 10, 2014 The benchmark. Can our junior athletes train as hard as Malaysia's world No.1 badminton player, Lee Chong Wei? “IT IS okay lah. The training is not too bad lah. I will try lah … Wah, so hard lah today.” These are some of the common statements I hear from our juniors nowadays. It is not only in badminton. It is the easy-going, laid-back attitude and lack of competitiveness at grassroots level that we have problems producing quality players. I have travelled quite a bit. After ending my decade-long career with the national team, I went to play in the league in Europe. It’s different there. The European athletes know what they want. And they do it with real focus. Even the young ones possess admirable self-control and show a high level of commitment. During my time in the ...

Organising Major Sports Events Can Inspire Sports Culture Among The People - Khairy

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (Bernama) -- Organising major sports events can help inspire sports culture among the people and ensure a healthy lifestyle said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Khairy said the Tour of Malaysia cycling race organised since 1963, for example, can encourage more people to take the sport in a more competitive way or just for recreation purposes. "A study carried out by a world renown medical journal, The Lancet, revealed that 61 percent of adults in Malaysia do not engage themselves in active sports. "A study by the Health Ministry revealed that only 25 percent of Malaysians exercise," he said in his speech when launching the 2013 Tour of Malaysia (Jelajah Malaysia) at the Youth and Sports Ministry, here, Wednesday. "Cycling, though not as popular here as in countries like Denmark, the activity is becoming popular among the people as can be seen through an increase in sale of bicycles for recreation," he sa...
