CIMB sokong skuasy ke Olimpik

Sumbangan CIMB untuk pembangunan skuasy negara cukup besar hingga berjaya melahirkan ramai pemain remaja berkaliber di pentas dunia dan kini syarikat perbankan tempatan itu meneruskan sokongan dengan menyokong penuh badan induk skuasy dunia mempromosi sukan itu untuk disenaraikan sebagai salah satu acara Olimpik 2020.

Ketua Eksekutif Kumpulan CIMB Datuk Seri Nazir Razak berkata, pihaknya teruja untuk melihat skuasy tersenarai di Olimpik kerana sukan itu sememangnya layak berada sebaris sukan lain, begitu juga dengan atlet skuasy seluruh dunia yang bekerja keras meletakkan sukan itu di tahap tertinggi.

“Kami menyokong bidaan skuasy ‘Back The Bid 2020’ dari segi kewangan, menyediakan video persembahan yang akan dipersembahkan di depan Jawatankuasa Olimpik Antarabangsa (IOC) di St Petersburg, Mei ini selain promosi lain,” kata Nazir pada sidang media di pejabatnya di Jalan Semantan, Kuala Lumpur semalam.

Begitupun jumlah wang yang dibelanjakan untuk urusan ‘Back The Bid 2020’ itu tidak dapat didedahkan beliau kerana promosi masih dijalankan.

Buat masa ini, skuasy bersaing dengan tujuh sukan lain untuk terpilih ke Olimpik 2020 iaitu gusti, besbol/sofbol, memanjat dinding, karate, sukan roler, wakeboard dan wushu.

Selepas persembahan di St Petersburg, tiga sukan akan disenarai pendek oleh Lembaga Eksekutif IOC sebelum undian terakhir dibuat di Buenos Aires, Argentina pada September bagi memilih hanya satu sukan yang akan disenaraikan, menggantikan gusti yang dibuang dari Rio 2016 selepas diselubungi kontroversi.

Pemain nombor satu dunia wanita, Datuk Nicol David yakin skuasy akan mendapat perhatian serius dari IOC, namun dia tetap mengalu-alukan semua pihak yang sedia membantu menyokong bidaan skuasy ke Olimpik.

“Saya gembira apabila CIMB tampil menjadi korporat pertama menyokong skuasy dunia apatah lagi syarikat ini dari Malaysia. Apa yang kami perlukan lagi, tidak kira dari pihak mana sekalipun atau bentuk bantuan apa yang ingin disampaikan kepada kami bagi merealisasikan hasrat ini,” kata Nicol.

Ditanya mengenai pesaing terkuat yang boleh menjejaskan peluang skuasy ke Olimpik, Nicol berkata: “Buat masa ini saya lihat skuasy dan karate mendahului dari segi promosi tapi gusti juga giat mempromosi sukan mereka untuk dimasukkan semula dalam kalendar Olimpik.

“Malah kita tidak boleh memandang rendah peluang sukan baru lain yang semakin dekat dengan jiwa orang muda seperti memanjat dinding dan sukan roller.

“Bagaimanapun, jika berdasarkan video persembahan, saya yakin kami ada cukup ramuan yang boleh memikat IOC.”

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
