KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- The 2012 National Sportsman Award
bestowed on the number one badminton player in the country last night,
was another stroke of good luck for Datuk Lee Chong Wei, following the
birth of his son.
The arrival of Kingston Lee on April 12, appeared to have given Chong Wei a new resolve in each game he played.
"Luck seemed to be on my side soon after the birth of my son including the National Sportsman of the Year award," said Chong Wei who earlier led Malaysia to win the 2013 Axiata Cup.
At the same ceremony, Pandelela Rinong was awarded the National Sportswoman of the 2012.
Chong Wei hoped to display a better performance this year to continue being the national sportsman and break the record that he shares with former shuttler Rashid Sidek, who is also a four-time winner.
The Penang-born Chong Wei who married his long time sweet heart Wong Mew Choo who was also a former National women's number one shuttler in the country, is the world number one singles player who hoped his son will continue to bring him good luck at the World Badminton Championships later this year.
"It is my dream and desire to reach the final of the World Badminton championships this year. I hope the arrival of Kingston will give me the kind of luck needed," he said.
