Sports Commentating Still Relevant In Internet Age

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The job of a sports commentator might seem glamorous but it takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to put up an in-depth and entertaining commentary.

Astro Arena sports commentator, Hafizal Hamad who has more than 10 years experience under his belt said a sports commentator shoulders a heavy responsibility and must be willing to take positive criticism from sports enthusiasts.

"One has to love sports in general and have a passion for certain games," he said when interviewed by Bernama, here, Sunday.

Hafizal had been assigned to provide 'live coverage' for several prestigious sporting events such as the Manila SEA Games, Korat SEA Games, Doha Asian Games, Beijing Olympic Games, All England Badminton championships and the Thomas Cup.

Meanwhile, veteran commentator Datuk Hasbullah Awang said his peers today were having a much easier time to gather information because such information was readily available at their finger tips in this internet age.

He said the generation of commentators today also have their jobs cut out for them with the help of sophisticated technology.

"In the era of Datuk Rahim Razali and myself, we literally had to go to the ground to get reaction from players and build rapport with them," he said.

As for national sports critic, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim, in the 30's and 40's, only ordinary people became sports commentators but they did a good job.

"For them it was the love for sports and some were even prepared to do for free compared to the lucrative payments commanded by the sports commentators today.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badaw i said the government always gives emphasis on cultivating a strong sporting culture in achieving excellence at the international level. Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
