DBKL Must Build New Velodrome If Kuala Lumpur Velodrome Demolished - MNCF

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) wants the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to build an alternative Velodrome if the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome in Cheras was demolished to make way for commercial development.

MNCF Deputy President Datuk Naim Mohamad said the presence of a Velodrome, not necessarily a Class One Velodrome, in the city was vital for national track cyclists to continue training in Kuala Lumpur.

"If it is true that the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome in Cheras will be demolished to make way for development, I urge DBKL to build a new Velodrome," he told Bernama when contacted, Tuesday.

Naim said the Rawamangun Velodrome in Jakarta that was used during the 2011 SEA Games does not involve a big allocation and can be completed in a short period of time.

A media report had quoted a source as saying that the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome which was the venue for cycling events during the Kuala Lumpur 1998 Commonwealth Games, would be demolished by end 2013.

Meanwhile, Naim said Malaysian riders had arrived safely in Manchester to take part in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup from Nov 1 to 3.

"However, I do not know if their training has been affected due to the St Jude storm," he said adding that he has yet to receive any details from National cycling head coach John Beasley.

The World Cup will be held at the Manchester National Indoor Velodrome.

Malaysian track cyclists in the team are Josiah Ng, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Idrus Md Yunus and Muhammad Firdaus Shahrom Mohd Zonis in the men's events and Fatehah Mustapa and Ju Pha Som Net who compete in the women's events.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
