Pandelela Rinong Dinobat Olahragawati Sarawak Kali Kedua

SIBU, 24 Nov (Bernama) -- Ratu terjun negara Pandelela Rinong anak Pamg sekali dinobatkan sebagai Olahragawati Sarawak pada majlis Anugerah Sukan Negeri Sarawak 2011/2012 di sini semalam.

Kali pertama penerjun ini memenangi anugerah tersebut ialah pada tahun 2010.

Pandelela merupakan atlet wanita Malaysia pertama memenangi pingat pada temasya sukan Olimpik apabila berjaya merangkul pingat gangsa acara terjun 10 meter di Olimpik London 2012.

Upacara penyampaian anugerah itu disempurnakan Menteri Muda Perhubungan merangkap Menteri Muda Sukan Sarawak, Datuk Lee Kim Shin yang mewakili Ketua Menteri Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Rakan seperjuangan Pandelela, Bryan Nickson Lomas yang juga mempamerkan prestasi cemerlang di peringkat antarabangsa dinobatkan sebagai Olahragawan 2011/2012. Masing masing menerima RM5,000, trofi dan sijil penghargaan.

Kategori Olahragawan Paralimpik dimenangi Jamery Siga dari acara renang manakala Olahragawati Paralimpik menjadi milik Nabilah Ahmad Sherif (badminton).

Kategori Olahragawan dan Olahragawati Harapan masing-masing dimenangi Mohammad Arif Zulhimi Alet (olahraga) dan Angela Chieng (renang).

Kategori Jurulatih Sukan Terbaik disandang Ling Neng Thung (olahraga), Jurulatih Sukan Paralimpik Terbaik (Awang Ismail Zamia Awang Nusi - badminton), Kepimpinan Sukan Terbaik (Moh Wung Ming - bola tampar), Pasukan Lelaki Terbaik (Skuasy), Pasukan Wanita Terbaik (Bola Tampar) dan Persatuan Sukan Terbaik (Persatuan Tenpin Bowling).

Wartawan sukan Utusan Borneo Harry Elias diisytiharkan sebagai Penulis Sukan Terbaik kategori Bahasa Malaysia, Robert Kenneth (kategori Bahasa Inggeris - akhbar The Star) dan Teo Chi Wei ( Bahasa Cina - See Hua Daily News).

Sementara itu bagi kategori khas yang diperkenalkan tahun ini, iaitu Tokoh Sukan Negeri Sarawak dianugerahkan kepada atlet Bumi Kenyalang pertama mewakili negara ke temasya sukan Olimpik Tokyo 1964, mendiang Bala Ditta (olahraga).

Langkah memperkenalkan kategori baharu itu adalah sempena sambutan ulang tahun kemerdekaan Sarawak ke-50 serta menghargai sumbangan atlet dalam mengharumkan nama negara dan pembangunan sukan Sarawak.

Sebanyak 70 pencalonan daripada individu, persatuan dan pasukan sukan dari seluruh Sarawak telah disenarai pendek untuk merebut 18 kategori yang dipertandingkan pada Anugerah Sukan Negeri Sarawak 2011/2012.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach. "After listening to the recording of the post-match press conference, we decided to drop the charge against Rajagopal as he did not make such a statement.
