Sailing Academy To Be Set Up Next Year - Khairy

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry will soon set up an academy for sailing through the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA).

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said setting up an academy would be a step forward to develop sailing as a sport in the country but the location for the academy has yet to be decided.

However, he did not rule out the possibility that Pulau Duyong, home of the Monsoon Cup, may be the location.

"The academy could be set up by next year, depending on the availability of funds. We may not have to spend much because all the facilities are in place here," he told reporters, here, Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Khairy said the ministry would allow the organiser to determine the venue for the next Monsoon Cup which is the final leg of the prestigious Alpari World Match Racing Tour (AWMRT).

Khairy said the ministry would go through a study report on such a possibilities before making a final decision on the venue for next season.

He said upon receiving a report, the Ministry and the organiser will sit down for discussions to determine whether the event would continue to be held in Terengganu, which has hosted the cup since 2005, or decide on a new venue.

"Throughout being host the event, Terengganu has done a great deal to promote the state to a global audience. So, we will leave it to the organiser to decide on the most suitable location," he said.

Terengganu state Youth and Sports & Human Resource committee chairman Rozi Mamat meanwhile, said the state was ready and willing to continue hosting the prestigious sailing event.

Pulau Duyong, here, is the venue for the sixth and final leg of the AWMRT after Langenargen (Germany); Gyeonggi (South Korea); Marstrand (Sweden); Chicago (United States) and Hamilton (Bermuda).

"If Terengganu is given a chance to continue hosting the Monsoon Cup, we will go the extra mile to ensure all facilities and services are up to the mark," he said.

The Monsoon Cup started today with 12 of the best sailors in the world (match racing), setting sail in Pulau Duyong with defending champion Ian Williams (GAC Pindar) leading the charge.

The AWMRT world champion for two consecutive years (2011 and 2012) will be challenged by 10 other world class sailors and Malaysia's Jeremy Koo of Koo Racing.

I stumbled across your blog and I found it to be a really useful! You have a solid writing style that’s really personable and interesting. I wanted to ask if you’d be interested to help us out by writing a post to help spread cancer awareness and those suffering from it in Malaysia.

They’ll be funding chemotherapy daycare usage for one cancer patient for every blogger that links back to their 110CancerCare website in their efforts to care for cancer patients. A post from you gets a cancer patient one-day funding for their daycare usage at NCSM Treatment Centre and help them through recovery, both financially and emotionally.
