Khairy To Deliberate National Riders' Proposals Before Follow-up

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said he would be looking at all the problems and suggestions raised by the national highway cycling racers before taking any follow-up actions.

Khairy said he could not arbitrarily make decisions based on the closed-door meeting with the riders today without obtaining the views of other parties including the Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF).

"During the meeting this morning, some of the professional cyclists have voiced their views to improve the quality of national highway cycling programme.

"I told them the matter will be discussed at a forum," he said.

Khairy was speaking to reporters after attending a presentation of sponsorship for the Malay College Rugby Premier Seven-A-Side Championships in Kuala Kangsar here Tuesday.

Khairy however said he needed to focus on the MNCF accounts audit which received an annual allocation of RM1.5 million from the ministry as it was a Key Performance Index (KPI) set earlier.

"The KPI is important as the funds came from the ministry. If we fail to meet the KPI, then I cannot decide on whether to continue the highway programme with MNCF or with the National Sports Council," he said.

On another matter, Khairy expressed his confidence with the capability of the new national senior hockey squad coach, Muhammad Dharma Raj Abdullah to achieve further success after guiding the youth squad to the fourth placing in the Junior World Cup Hockey championship in India last year.

Muhammad Dharma Raj, who was assistant coach to Revington, was appointed to the post after the South African resigned claiming he had health problems.

"Revington was successful in qualifying the national squad for the 2014 World Cup and I believe Muhammad Dharma was the best individual based on his excellent record with the national youth squad earlier," said Khairy.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
