Muhammad Dharmaraj Appointed New Head Coach Of Senior Squad

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) - Former national junior hockey coach Muhammad Dharmaraj Abdullah has been appointed as national senior head coach to replace Paul Revington.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) senior vice-president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the appointment of Muhammad Dharmaraj was approved by MHC president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who met Revington and the players yesterday.

"K. Gobinathan and Nor Azlan Bakar will assist Muhammad Dharmaraj while Selvaraj who was assistant to Revington was appointed as head coach of the junior squad," he told reporters at a press conference, here today.

Nur Azmi said MHC agreed to Muhammad Dharmaraj's appointment as they were unable to find a foreign coach to prepare the national squad for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Perak in March.

Revington, who was present at the press conference claimed he needed to fight the onset of a stress related illness which he suffered since taking over as head coach of the senior squad in June last year.

"One might be able to push through and take days off when needed but I'm not in that position.

"I have to handle 45 people who look to me daily for a strong and decisive leadership and it does not allow for too many days of being off my best" said the 2011 FIH Best Coach.

However, he is looking forward to work with the national junior squad in future and is fully confident that Muhammad Dharmaraj can continue his excellent work with the senior squad."

Revington had signed a four-year contract with the MHC.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Dharmaraj pledged to help the national senior squad achieve the target set by the MHC.

"However, I have to meet the players (national senior squad) before implementing plans to achieve goals determined by the management."

He took the national junior team to fourth place at the World Championships in India last year.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
