KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Former France international
captain, Marcel Desailly said he was ready to take up the post of
national coach for the Malaysian team in the future.
The retired Ghanaian born-French footballer revealed that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) officials had been in touch with him, a couple of months ago about the job which remains vacant after the national body did not renew the contract of Datuk K. Rajagobal which expired on Dec 31, last year.
"I have already got my coaching badge after involving in football for almost 20 years and I'm ready to share my knowledge with the Malaysian football.
"Now, I'll leave it to them (FAM) to decide but I hope to be the man for the job," he told reporters when met after attending the announcement of nominees for the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards, here, Wednesday.
The prestigious sports awards ceremony will be held here on March 26.
Local newspapers had earlier reported that Desailly was among candidates shortlisted for the job, besides former AS Roma manager, Zdenek Zeman and Englishman Bob Houghton.
The 'hot seat' for the job remains open after the leading shortlisted candidate, Philippe Troussier of France, failed to reached an agreement with FAM officials during their private meeting, here, last month.
The national team is currently handled by caretaker coach, Datuk Ong Kim Swee who is also the U-23 (Harimau Muda A) head Coach.
