Dilemma for Sultan Ahmad Shah

ELECTIONS: Has to decide whether to defend FAM presidency

FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Sultan Ahmad Shah faces a dilemma on whether to defend his seat in the national body’s congress-cum-elections on May 25.

Having been at FAM’s helm since 1984, Sultan Ahmad Shah has been nominated for another four-year term. The other nominees are his son and incumbent deputy president Tengku Abdullah and Johor FA president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Sultan Ahmad Shah will decide on Saturday during FAM’s executive committee meeting on whether to contest. It is learnt  he is keen to step down but will only do so if   Tengku Abdullah replaces him.
 However, Tunku Ismail’s emergence as a challenger may   derail the transition if the Johor prince accepts his nomination.

 “Tunku Ismail wants to go for the top post but this could change in the coming days. I am confident there will be a  compromise and that there will be no contest for the top post,” said a source.

Tengku Abdullah will defend his deputy’s post if Sultan Ahmad Shah decides to remain president.
Former Selangor state assemblyman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal,  Selangor FA deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad, Sarawak FA president Datuk Sudarsono Osman, Perlis FA president Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman, Kelantan FA acting president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah and Armed Forces FA president Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin have also been nominated for the deputy president’s posts.

“If Sultan Ahmad Shah decides to defend his post, then Tengku Abdullah and Subahan will be the leading candidates for the deputy positions. Everything will be known on Saturday,” the source added.

 There are 17 nominations for the vice-president positions and 25 candidates for the eight executive committee seats and nine for the two newly-created women’s executive committee positions.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
