Penggiat hoki tidak lupa jasa Almarhum

KUALA LUMPUR - Naib Presiden Kanan Konfederasi Hoki Malaysia (KHM), Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad menyifatkan kemangkatan Sultan Perak, Almarhum Sultan Azlan Shah yang pernah memimpin badan induk itu, sebagai satu kehilangan besar kepada arena hoki negara ini dan Asia.

Katanya, jasa dan minat Almarhum kepada sukan hoki begitu jelas dan ini terbukti apabila baginda berusaha membina gelanggang hoki astroturf, Stadium Azlan Shah di Ipoh, Perak dan mewujudkan Piala Sultan Azlan Shah - sebuah kejohanan antarabangsa tahunan dalam kalendar MHC - dan disertai pasukan-pasukan ternama dunia.

"Saya dan seluruh warga kerja MHC terasa amat sedih dan pasti sentiasa merindui jasa, sumbangan dan sokongan moral yang diberikan Almarhum kepada hoki negara sepanjang penglibatannya dalam MHC mahupun AHF (Persekutuan Hoki Asia).
"Kali terakhir saya sempat bertemu Almarhum ialah tahun lalu.

"Sebagai Presiden MHC (ketika itu Persekutuan Hoki Malaysia - PHM dari 1976 hingga 2004), Almarhum merupakan antara tokoh yang mencetuskan kebangkitan hoki negara.
"Kami mengucapkan takziah kepada keluarga Almarhum dan semoga rohnya ditempatkan dalam kalangan orang yang salih," katanya kepada Utusan Malaysia di sini semalam.

Anakanda Sultan Azlan Shah, Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah juga pernah memimpin MHC dari 2004 hingga 2006, menggantikan baginda.

Sultan Azlan Shah, yang turut pernah menganggotai Lembaga Eksekutif Persekutuan Hoki Antarabangsa (FIH), mangkat kira-kira pukul 1.30 petang semalam pada usia 86 tahun.

Sementara itu, bekas pemain skuad Piala Dunia Remaja 1989, Ariffin Ghani turut melahirkan rasa sedih atas kemangkatan Sultan Azlan Shah yang disifatkannya amat mengambil berat dan selalu memberikan sokongan moral kepada pasukan negara.

"Saya yang bermain kejohanan di Ipoh itu, masih teringat kata-kata perangsang Almarhum ketika satu majlis makan malam. Baginda menuntut kami agar sentiasa bersemangat waja apabila di gelanggang.

"Saya turut menganggap jasa dan sumbangan Almarhum (Piala Sultan Azlan Shah dan Stadium Azlan Shah) melayakkannya diiktiraf sebagai Bapa Hoki Malaysia.

"Minatnya kepada sukan ini cukup tinggi tetapi agak ralat apabila pasukan Malaysia masih tidak dapat memenangi Piala Sultan Azlan Shah walau sekalipun sejak dipertandingkan pada 1983," katanya yang juga Pengarah Bahagian Atlet Majlis Sukan Negara.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
