Khairy launches ‘Malaysian Heroes’

THE new “Malaysian Heroes” uniform for the national sports teams were officially launched by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

The all new kit, designed by Melinda Looi, replaced the previous uniform that was designed back in 2005.

“For nine years, our Malaysian athletes have carried the hopes of the nation at the international stage, using the existing kit,” said Khairy.

“It’s time for us to add new breath to the team’s kit, to bring about new hope and confidence for our athletes.

“The kit designed by Melinda, is fresh, attractive, brings more energy and looks fierce.”

Khairy said the ministry has copyrighted the design, to prevent irresponsible parties from duplicating the designs to produce counterfeit uniforms.

“Today we also see NSC signing an agreement with two private entities — Sunrise & Co (Pte) Ltd who owns Yonex, and TM who have together with NSC and the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), created the Team Malaysia platform for Malaysians to show their support for the national team.

“The new kits will be donned by our athletes at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow that begins on July 23, and our agreement with Sunrise and TM are till the Tokyo Games in 2020.”

National athletes, including Lee Chong Wei, diver Pandelela Rinong and 400m hurdler Noraseela Khalid modelled the new kits at the NSC Gymnasium as part of the launch event.

On what brought about the change, Khairy said: “I remember watching the European championships in 2012, and the Italian team’s suits were designed by Armani, and I believe that it is only fitting for our national athletes to feel comfortable, as they are natural models, and they need to look good.”

Also present at the event were NSC director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, chief secretary to the sports ministry Datuk Jamil Salleh, OCM deputy president Datuk Low Beng Choo, TM Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Zamzam Zairani Mohd Isa, Sunrise Co head of business development Harinder Garga and designer Melinda Looi.

There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
