Malaysia win another silver in archery mixed team event

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia won another mixed team medal at the Youth Olympics Games in Nanjing – this time through archery.

Archer Mohd Zarif Syahiir partnered Germany’s Cynthia Freywald to finish second on Sunday.

Zarif-Freywald who started off by beating Luis Tapia-Rosangel Sainz of Mexico-Cuba in the first round on Friday, stepped it up a notch by reaching the final in superb fashion.

The pair who competed in four matches yesterday, first eliminated Andreas Mayr-Lucy Tatafu (Germany-Tonga) 5-4 in the second round, before beating Bradley Denny-Miasa Koike of Britain-Japan by a similar score.
In the semi-finals, they outshot Rick Martens-Regina Romero of Belgium-Guatemala 6-2.

But they finally met their match in the final against the Philippines-China combination of Luis Gabriel Moreno-Li Jiaman who won 6-0.

The silver medal however will not be credited into Malaysia’s medal tally as they are competing under the mixed-NOCs (National Olympic Committees) flag.

This is the third medal a Malaysian athlete has won, after shuttler Cheam June Wei’s gold in mixed doubles, and diver Loh Zhiayi’s silver in the women’s 10m platform.

In artistic gymnastics, Jeremiah Loo finish seventh with a score of 13.366. Russia’s Nikita Nargonny took gold with 14.033.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
