Khairy Seeking Clarification From Singapore Authorities For Barring Malaysian Supporters

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is upset with the Singapore authorities for allegedly barring Malaysian football fans from entering the country to watch Malaysia's AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 match against Myanmar at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday.

Khairy also questioned the presence of a large number of Myanmar fans who had also brought along a huge flag of the country into the stadium.

The Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister said he had sent a letter to the Singapore authorities, seeking an explanation over the matter.

"Though we respect the procedures of other countries, I am not happy with the way Malaysian football fans were treated. Once there is a reply (Singapore), I will inform the Malaysian public," Khairy said in his Facebook, today.

Khairy said he was informed that a number of Malaysian football fans were stopped at the Singapore Customs Checkpoint in Tuas before the match between Malaysia and Myanmar.

"I was told they (Malaysian fans) were detained at the checkpoint and not allowed to enter Singapore, simply because they had wanted to watch the match. The notice of the Singapore Customs and Immigration had been widely published in the social media," he said.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
