Sports Ministry To Promote Football In Schools By Providing Incentives, Assistance - Khairy


SERI KEMBANGAN, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry will introduce various incentives to schools and their students who are directly involved in the National Football Development Programme (PPBN).

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said PPBN wants a variation in incentives and assistance provided at the grassroots level, including providing coaches and sports science to enhance their training programmes.

Khairy said the incentive for primary schools would be based on a merit points system with schools that accumulated high points receiving equipment for football, assistance to maintain playing fields and free football clinics.

"The problem of lack of fields is not faced by one or two schools but the problems exists everywhere," he said in his speech at a PPBN seminar here today.

Merit points would be awarded to primary schools if their students are selected for Sports Schools or the National Football Academy, state sports schools, Tunas Academy or selected to represent their district.

Other incentives include Permodalan Nasional Berhad shares.

Khairy said to encourage participation of female students in football, PPBN will prepare equipment and coaching clinics for those aged between 7 and 17.

He said the seminar today was to chart the direction of football development in the country and to strengthen PPBN's administration at the National and state levels.

Among those present at the seminar today were Education Ministry's Sports Director Datuk Marina Chin, PPBN Technical Coordinator Lim Teong Kim, National Sports Council director-general Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, National Sports Institute chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz and the Football Association of Malaysia Technical director Fritz Markus Schmid.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
