Liverpool Expected To Play Friendly Match Against Malaysia In July

PETALING JAYA, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- English Premier League club Liverpool are expected to play a friendly match against a Malaysian selection in July said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

FAM President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said the prospect was still in the discussion stage but a confirmation of the match and date could be made by next month.

"For Malaysian fans of Liverpool, there is a possibility to see their stars in action here but it has yet to be finalised. We are hoping for the match to be played about two weeks after Hari Raya Aidilfitri in July," he told reporters after emerging from a FAM executive committee meeting at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya, here today.

The last time Liverpool played in Malaysia was in 2011 when the EPL side beat Harimau Malaya 6-3 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said newly crowned African Nations Cup champion Ivory Coast may also play a friendly match against National coach Dollah Salleh's boys.

"We are awaiting confirmation from Ivory Coast but if they cannot make it, Malaysia will play against Syria because the Syrian team has agreed to play,' he said adding that the match would be played at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh.

Meanwhile, the FAM said the question of which team would players who represent Harimau Muda play once their contract with the National team ends, would be decided by the school they had studied before joining the Harimau Muda squad.

FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said the FAM had decided to amend the previous regulation to avoid any confusion as to where a player can return once his contract with the Harimau Muda team expires.

"Maybe his (Rajagobal) assessment and comments of the match was misconstrued by the media. There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
