Ismail Sabri To Seek Clarification From NSC

BERA (Pahang), March 30 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Sunday that he would seek clarification from the National Sports Council (NSC) about payments owing to sports bodies. "I need a clearer picture on this before making any comments," he told reporters here. Saturday, newspapers reported that the NSC still owed the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) almost RM1 million meant to be expenses borne by OCM for the country's contingent to the Doha Asian Games in 2006 and some RM2.5 million to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for its operating expenditure. Ismail Sabri had earlier opened the annual general meeting of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Felda Tembangau's Parent-Teacher Association. -- BERNAMA

No Sweat For Kedah KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Defending champions Kedah beat Sarawak 2-0 in their second round, second leg match to qualify for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup football competition. Accompanying Kedah in the last eight are Selangor, Sabah, Pahang, Melaka, Felda United, Terengganu and Kuala Muda. In the match in KUCHING, Mohd Fadly Baharom scored twice for Kedah in the 28th and 37th minute. In their first leg encounter at the Darul Aman Stadium, Kedah beat Sarawak 3-0. Second Season CYC Kicks Off In August KUALA LUMPUR, 27 March (Bernama) -- The second edition of the Under- 19 Champions Youth Cup (CYC) will kick off on August 2, with 16 clubs and national teams vying for the title. Ten out of the sixteen teams are prominent European-based clubs, led by defending champions Manchester United that narrowly beat Juventus of Italy 1-0 in last year's final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. The teams participating include Chelsea (England), Juventus (Italy), AC Milan (Italy), Bayern Munich (Germany), Barcelona (Spain), Ajax (Holland), PSV Eindhoven (Holland), Olympique Lyonnais (France) and FC Porto (Portugal). "Special Officer" Post Will Be Created To Help Indian Youths, Says Sabri KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- In the absence of a parliamentary secretary, The Youth and Sports Ministry will create the post of a "Special Officer" to look after the development needs of Indian youths, said its newly-appointed minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He also said that the ministry was looking at a new mechanism to channel funding to sports associations in the states of Penang, Kedah, Perak and Selangor.
