Yao Ming's Bed, Olympic Items Go Under Hammer BEIJING, June 26 (Bernama) -- Basketball star Yao Ming's extra size bed, electronic equipment and furniture for the Beijing Olympic Games are already up for grabs even before they have been used. About 200 million items from the Olympics and ensuing Paralympics Games would be auctioned, and online bidding started yesterday, the China Daily said. The auction, by China Beijing Equity Exchange (CBEX), is expected to fetch one billion yuan (RM1 = 2.10 yuan) which will go to the Games organisers. "Obviously, the bidding will be hot. People will be looking for memorabilia," CBEX president Xiong Yan was quoted as saying. "This is not the first time Olympic organisers are auctioning memorabilia. But as far as I know, this will be the biggest," he said. Sports Associations Laud RM1 Mln Incentive KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (BERNAMA) -- "A good and timely move". This was the general reaction from officials from sports associations to the government's announcement that Olympic-bound athletes would be rewarded RM1 million for each gold they could bring back from the Beijing Games in August. "It (incentive) will certainly fire up the Malaysian Olympians," National Archery Association of Malaysia (NAM) secretary-general Hamid Hasan told Bernama. Three national archers -- Muhammad Marbawi Sulaiman, Cheng Chu Sian and Wan Mohd Khalmizan Wan Abd Aziz -- have qualified for the recurve event at the Beijing Games. Jegathesan KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The RM1 million incentive announced by the government for the Olympic-bound athletes who bag the country's first-ever gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, is a great motivator for them to excel, said Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Datum M. Jegathesan. He said the handsome incentive would further motivate the athletes who will be competing in ten sports at the world's biggest games.
