Anugerah pencetus semangat Safuan

"ANUGERAH ini menaikkan semangat saya untuk terus bekerja keras bagi mempertahankan kedudukan sebagai Pemain No.1 Dunia."

Begitu azam baru pemain boling padang negara, Safuan Said setelah diumumkan sebagai Olahragawan Negeri Perak bagi tahun 2008 di Ipoh malam kelmarin.

Sebelum ini, Safuan turut memenangi anugerah tersebut pada tahun 2003 dan 2006 lalu.

Safuan yang menduduki takhta No. 1 dunia sejak tahun 2006 bertekad untuk menggandakan latihannya bagi mengekalkan prestasinya sesuai dengan statusnya sebagai pemain No. 1 dunia.

"Pemain dari England, Australia dan New Zealand sedang mengintai peluang untuk merampas kedudukan tersebut," jelasnya yang kini sedang giat menjalani latihan sebagai persediaan menghadapi Kejohanan Boling Padang Asia Pacifik di Kuala Lumpur tidak lama lagi.

Selain Safuan, pemain badminton negara, Koo Kien Keat turut dicalonkan untuk anugerah tersebut.

Safuan dipilih memenangi anugerah tersebut atas pencapaiannya merangkul pingat emas acara perseorangan pada Kejohanan Piala Dunia di Sydney, Australia, Kejohanan Dunia di New Zealand dan Kejohanan Boling Padang Asia di Shenzhen, China tahun lalu.

Kejayaan Sin Li Jane yang membawa pulang dua pingat emas dan tiga perak daripada Kejohanan Boling Tenpin Boling Komanwel IV di Belfast, Ireland Utara tahun lalu membolehkannya dipilih sebagai Olahragawati Perak bagi tahun 2008.

Turut dicalonkan untuk anugerah tersebut ialah pemain badminton negara, Wong Pei Tty dan pemain boling padang, Nur Fidrah Noh.

Sementara itu, atlet lompat kijang berbakat, Muhammad Hakimi Ismail dan jaguh lompat jauh negara, Noor Amira Mohamad Nafiah diumumkan sebagai Olahragawan dan Olahragawati Harapan 2008.

Bekas pemain boling padang kebangsaan, Sazeli Sani dipilih sebagai Jurulatih Terbaik.

Anugerah Jasamu Dikenang pula diberikan kepada bekas jurulatih olahraga, Miau Tong Hoi atas sumbangannya kepada Perak sejak tahun 1957 lalu.

Semua anugerah tersebut disampaikan oleh Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kesenian, Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan negeri Perak, Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach. "After listening to the recording of the post-match press conference, we decided to drop the charge against Rajagopal as he did not make such a statement.
