KUALA LUMPUR: Australia hammered Malaysia 11-3 in the opening match of the three-nation hockey series at the National Hockey Centre in Canberra yesterday.
It was a big letdown by the Malaysians who, just two days ago, had edged the Australians 1-0 in the second Test in Adeleide.
The Australians raced into a 9-1 half-time lead yesterday before condemning Malaysia to one of their worst defeats ever.
Malaysia, who will play Canada on Saturday, got their goals through Faisal Saari, Nabil Fiqri and Nor Hafifihafiz.
Today, the Malaysians will play Australia A, which is a development team. The result of this match will not count towards the tournament’s standings.
