Johansson Tumpaskan Hewitt Dalam Kejohanan Tenis Terbuka Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Sept (Bernama) -- Pemain Sweden Joachim Johansson menewaskan pemain ranking ke-16 yang pernah menduduki takhta pemain nombor satu dunia Lieyton Hewitt, manakala pemain ranking-19 dunia David Ferrer tumbang dalam saingan kejohanan sulung Terbuka Malaysia Proton yang berlangsung di Stadium Putra Selasa malam.

Ranking ke-47 Johansson, yang baru pulih dari kecederaan bahu meraih kemenangan selepas menumpaskan Hewitt dengan 7-6 (7), 6-3 untuk mara ke pusingan kedua.

"Ia adalah perlawanan yang amat mencabar selepas saya berehat selama tiga minggu sebelum ini," kata Hewitt dan menambah tumpuannya kini adalah untuk beraksi dalam saingan di Tokyo dan Shanghai.

Sementara itu Johansson yang akan digandingkan dengan pemain terbaik Malaysia Si Yew Ming dalam acara beregu berkata, beliau sudah menjangka akan beroleh kemenangan malam ini.

"Hewitt dan saya berlatih dan bersaing beberapa kali sebelum ini, tapi hari ini saya bermain dengan lebih agresif dari pukulan pertama sehingga akhir, saya amat berpuas hati dengan prestasi hari ini," katanya.

Merujuk kepada gandingan beliau dengan Yew Ming, Johansson yang juga anggota pasukan Sweden dalam Piala Davis berkata: "Sebenarnya saya tidak bermain acara beregu sejak 2005 disebabkan kecederaan bahu, tumpuan saya lebih kepada perseorangan, tapi saya tetap akan berikan yang terbaik pada acara ini nanti".

Rabu, pasangan Johansson-Yew Ming akan berhadapan dengan pasangan Brazil Marcelo Melo-Andre Rendeza Sa.

Sementara itu David Ferrer dari Sepanyol yang merupakan pilihan ke-7 kejohanan terkeluar dari saingan apabila kalah ditangan pemain bukan pilihan dari Rusia Mikhail Youzhny 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Sebagaimana yang dijangka pemain nombor-16 dunia dan pilihan ke-6 Tomas Berdych mara ke pusingan kedua selepas menewaskan Igor Kunitsyn dari Rusia 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Sementara itu pemain yang melayakkan diri menerusi wildcard Rohan Bopanna dari India membuat kejutan apabila beliau menumpaskan pemain nombor-51 dunia Jose Acasuso dari Argentina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Pemain Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello pula menewaskan Feliciano Lopez dari Sepanyol 6-3, 6-3 dalam pertemuan pertama mereka sejak Roland Garros 2008.

Antara perlawanan yang menjadi tumpuan esok adalah pertemuan antara Gael Monfils (Perancis) dan Denis Istomin (Uzbekistan), Robin Soderling (Sweden) and Brendan Evans (Amerika); Nikolay Davydenko (Rusia) dan Taylor Dent (Amerika).

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
