MELAKA, May 29 (Bernama) -- The 13th Sukma, to be hosted by Melaka next month, requires 1,000 more volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the biennial sporting event.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said so far 2,500 people had registered as volunteers.
"I've asked each of the volunteers to approach their friends and tell them to become volunteers," he told reporters after briefing some 2,000 volunteers here comprising civil servants, private sector employees, students and undergraduates as well as members of non-governmental organisations.
He hope that more would come forward to become volunteers.
He also urged government agencies and private sector companies to give unrecorded leaves to their staff who wanted to be Sukma volunteers.
Mohd Ali said that as an incentive, volunteers would be given RM30 in daily allowance as well as food and clothing throughout the event.
More information can be obtained from Sukma Secretariat at Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong.
Meanwhile, the Sukma baton run passed through the Bachang state constituency today, participated by about 100 runners.
The event was flagged off by Bukit Katil MP Datuk Md Sirat Abu.
The run started in Kuala Linggi constituency on Feb 28 and ends at Paya Rumput constituency on June 12, in time for the opening of the games.
