INDONESIAN angst over perceived injustice in the AFF Suzuki Cup final first leg was in full display at the return match at Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta yesterday. As the stadium was filled to its 95,000 capacity two hours ahead kick-off, anti-Malaysian banners were unfurled while the Jalur Gemilang was set on fire outside the Senayan sports complex.
"Ganyang Malaysia" (whack Malaysia) and "Bantai (hammer) Malaysia 5-1" banners were subsequently removed by authorities to prevent untoward incidents.
Earlier, Kompas reported online that tens of Indonesian supporters burned the Malaysian flag at the entrance to the stadium.
Chants against national coach K. Rajagobal were reportedly made before the supporters dispersed as quickly as they had appeared with security personnel opting not to take any action.
