KETIKA beberapa sukan utama diletakkan sasaran meraih pingat khususnya emas di Sukan Olimpik 2012 London, penyertaan bola sepak dan hoki sebagai keluarga baru program Road To London pula dilihat sekadar membantu mereka melepasi kelayakan.
Mungkin bersikap lebih realistik dengan keupayaan kedua-dua sukan itu di pentas lebih tinggi, Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek mahu segala bantuan diberikan kepada sejumlah 50 pemain bola sepak dan hoki kebangsaan bagi membolehkan mereka tersenarai sebagai kontinjen ke London.

“Bagi acara hoki dan bola sepak, kita tidak boleh melihat bantuan perlu diberi selepas mereka layak tetapi kita akan cuba bantu mereka supaya mereka layak.
“Tiada kompromi terhadap misi mendapatkan emas pertama tetapi sasaran kita tahun ini ialah mendapatkan seberapa ramai atlet ke Sukan Olimpik,” katanya selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat jawatankuasa pemandu program Road To London di Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) semalam.

Pada masa sama, beliau turut mencetuskan kemungkinan sama ada pemain bola sepak negara masih mewakili negeri atau kelab atau meminta mereka memberi tumpuan sepenuhnya terhadap perlawanan kelayakan Olimpik, malah mahu berbincang dengan Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) mengenai perkara itu.
Selain hoki dan bola sepak, menembak turut tersenarai dalam program itu dengan mempertaruhkan lima atlet iaitu Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi, Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim, Bibiana Ng, Hasli Izwan Amir Hassan dan Hafiz Adha untuk membentuk kelompok besar 77 atlet yang berada dalam senarai elit.

Penambahan itu menurut Ahmad Shabery turut menyaksikan peningkatan kos untuk program Road To London daripada RM16 juta kepada RM26 juta.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badaw i said the government always gives emphasis on cultivating a strong sporting culture in achieving excellence at the international level. Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
