JAGUH lompat tinggi negara, Lee Hup Wei (gambar) dijangka sempat untuk menyertai Sukan SEA di Indonesia, November ini selepas selamat menjalani pembedahan buku lali, semalam.
Sesudah mengharungi pencapaian yang suram tahun lalu, atlit berusia 24 tahun itu terpaksa berehat dan menjalani rawatan pemulihan fisioterapi yang dijangka mengambil masa enam bulan untuk pulih sedia kala.
Atlit kelahiran Kajang, Selangor itu terpaksa melupakan Kejohanan Trek dan Padang Asia (ATF) di Jepun, Julai ini apabila kecederaan lamanya menghantui semula bulan lalu dan dinasihatkan menjalani pembedahan oleh Institut Sukan Negara (ISN).
Ketua jurulatih, Harun Rasheed berkata atlit itu selamat menjalani pembedahan di Pusat Pakar Damansara, semalam.
“Kami tidak mahu memaksa Hup Wei untuk segera sembuh bagi menyertai ATF nanti. Sasaran kita kalau mengikut perancangan, mahu dia mempertahankan pingat emas dimenangi pada Sukan SEA 2009 di Laos,” katanya mengenai pemenang ATF 2007 itu.
Hup Wei adalah pemegang rekod kebangsaan dengan catatan 2.27 meter yang dirakam pada Terbuka China pada Mei 2008 di Stadium Nasional Beijing.
