KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- The National karate squad has been issued a gag order by the Malaysian Amateur Karate Federation (MAKAF) against speaking to the media or making press statements.
A Makaf official who did not want to be named said the gag order was stated in their contract issued by Makaf.
"If coaches or any exponent was found breaching the contract, Makaf will take action," he told Bernama here Thursday.
The official added that all statements with regard to the development in the national karate team can only be issued by Makaf president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
Meanwhile, National Sports Council (NSC) president Datuk Zolkples Embong when contacted by Bernama said associations had the authority and power to restrict athletes and coaches from issuing any statements with regard to the team or policy matters.
"However, coaches and athletes can give statements regarding their performances, as long as it does not contravene the associations policy," he said.
He advised athletes and coaches to be cautious and not go overboard when issuing such statements and always refer to their respective associations before issuing such statements.
