KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Table Tennis Association of Malaysia (TTAM) will only be sending four paddlers to the SEA Games in Indonesia in November in view of the team events not being competed at the Games.
TTAM executive director Soong Poh Wah said the association had yet to finalise the national squad for the SEA Games and that a decision on this would only taken after a selection meeting with the Olympic Council of Malaysia at the end of next month.
"Unlike the last SEA Games in Laos, this time around the team events have been left out. Therefore, the size of the national squad will also be reduced accordingly," he told Bernama here today.
Soong said despite the full range of events not being competed, he expected Malaysia to do well at the SEA Games.
He added that the 24th Golden Racquet Championships in Ho Chi Minh City from July 12 to 17 would serve as a pproving ground for the national paddlers to earn their tickets to the SEA Games.
Malaysia's challenge in this championship will be shouldered by Mohd Shakirin Ibrahim, Chai Kian Beng and Muhammad Ashraf Haikal in the men's events and Beh Lee Wai, Chiw Soo Jiin and Lee Rou You in the women's.
