Wusyu yakin bawa pulang dua emas

KUALA LUMPUR - Aksi memberangsangkan pada Kejohanan Wusyu Dunia di Ankara dua minggu lepas menjadi tonik buat skuad tersebut untuk meraih sekurang-kurangnya dua pingat emas di Sukan SEA XXVI Indonesia 2011 bulan depan.

Menurut Ketua Kontinjen Malaysia ke Sukan SEA , Datuk Naim Mohamad, wusyu tidak putus-putus memberikan kilauan emas buat kontinjen negara termasuk di Sukan SEA Laos 2009 apabila berjaya meraih tiga emas, satu perak dan tiga gangsa.

"Kita bukan sahaja mampu memberikan persembahan terbaik di peringkat serantau, malah dihormati di peringkat benua dan dunia selepas dibuktikan dalam Kejohanan Wusyu Dunia baru-baru ini," katanya selepas mengadakan pertemuan dengan skuad wusyu negara yang akan ke Sukan SEA Palembang 2011, semalam.
Jelasnya, walaupun hampir separuh atlet pelapis akan mengambil bahagian, dia yakin pasukan yang dilatih Yoong Thong Foong dan Mao Yaqi mampu untuk mencapai sasaran yang diletakkan dengan memenangi dua emas.

"Ini adalah peluang terbaik buat atlet pelapis untuk mendapat pendedahan di peringkat antarabangsa dan saya yakin dengan sasaran yang diletakkan oleh persatuan untuk meraih dua pingat emas," katanya.

Wusyu menghantar 12 atlet yang dibahagikan kepada dua acara, taolu dan sanshou, namun pemenang pingat emas Kejohanan Wusyu Dunia, Chai Fong Ying tidak disenaraikan bagi memberi ruang kepada atlet muda.
"Antara pencabar negara di Sukan SEA Palembang nanti ialah Vietnam yang merupakan pemenang pingat emas terbanyak di Sukan SEA Laos iaitu dengan tujuh pingat emas, namun Malaysia mempunyai kekuatan tersendiri.

"Kita juga percaya dengan pengadilan bagi sukan subjektif kali ini untuk dilakukan dengan lebih adil agar tidak berlaku sebarang kontroversi seperti sebelum ini. Kita tidak perlu prejudis dan salah sangka dengan kemampuan pengadil yang terdiri daripada negara yang akan mengambil bahagian," katanya.

Atlet wusyu yang akan mengambil bahagian di Sukan SEA Palembang 2011 ialah Lee Yang, Loh Jack Chang, Koo Chee Zhong, Kevan Cheah Peng Heng, Ong Shi Chuan, Diana Bong Siong Lin, Tai Cheau Xuen, Ng Shin Yii, Kimberly Goh Yuen Yuen, kesemua mereka beraksi dalam acara taolu.
Sementara itu bagi acara sanshou skuad negara mengharapkan dua atlet lelaki dan seorang wanita, mereka ialah Wong Wei Jian, Tan Jia Guen dan Tan Pei Pin.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
