KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia are puzzled as to why the Indonesian SEA Games organising committee (Inasoc) are taking such a long time to test the B samples of two national athletes who were tested positive for doping at the Games.
The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) received news from Inasoc on Dec 21 that a member of the men’s 4x400m relay gold medal winning team and a weightlifter, who won bronze, had tested positive for a banned substance.
Malaysian chef-de-mission Datuk Naim Mohamed personally handed over a letter from the OCM to the Inasoc officials in Jakarta on Jan 7 asking for the B samples to be tested.
Naim, who is also the deputy president of Malaysian National Cycling Association (MNCA) said, that when he contacted the officials in Indonesia yesterday to find out the results of the B samples, he was told that they had yet to send the urine samples to a lab in Bangkok.
“I am surprised the Inasoc are taking so long to send the urine samples to the lab in Bangkok.
“It’s been more than three weeks since I handed over OCM’s letter to Inasoc officials in Jakarta. We should have received the results of the B samples by last week,” said Naim.
