Stuart quits MSL

STUART Ramalingam has resigned as chief executive officer of MSL Sdn Bhd, the commercial arm of the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

Stuart was hired to spearhead the FAM initiatives to take local football to greater heights by helping M-League teams make more money through enhanced marketing and promotional efforts under MSL chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

   MSL, under Stuart, was also supposed to work towards meeting the requirements of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to assist local teams qualify for the Asian Champions League. However, state FAs were non-receptive to the idea.

   Annuar had stated that re-branding was needed to raise the bar of the M-League and also produce better quality players but his ideas were turned down by unhappy officials.

   For the record, the M-League is ranked among the lowest by AFC.

   In order to qualify for the Asian Champions League, the M-League must first be managed by an independent body and not under the present system, where it is under FAM's competition committee, headed by Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.
