Ramlan to act as consultant to ministry

FORMER National Sports Institute CEO Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz will act as a consultant to the Sports Ministry to plan out a programme overseeing athletes' preparation for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said Ramlan's expertise and experience will be an asset towards preparing a new Olympic programme.

"I have discussed this matter with Ramlan. He will act as my advisor for sports, especially for the 2016 Games. We also need him to concentrate on further developing our anti-doping agency (Adamas)," said Ahmad Shabery in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

"Ramlan's redesignation is part of the ministry's reshuffling programme. We will reshuffle our officers to strengthen our administration. I believe, Ramlan is more suited for this role."

Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, formerly the National Sports Council (NSC) elite athletes director, was appointed as NSI's new CEO effective yesterday. He will be contracted for a year, until Aug 15, 2013.
"We picked Ahmad Shapawi as he has excellent administration skills. We will try him out for a year before assessing his performance," added Ahmad Shabery.
