KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports has
yet to receive a working paper from the Olympic Council of Malaysia
(OCM) on a proposal to host the SEA Games in 2017.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the ministry would require a detailed report before presenting it to the cabinet.
"Thus far, I have only heard of such a proposal by the OCM honorary secretary from media reports but we need a detailed report on the proposal," he told reporters after chairing a National Sports Council (NSC) Board meeting here Monday.
The OCM had initially proposed to host the 2017 SEA Games since it was Malaysia's turn to host the biennial games but the ministry had turned down the proposal, for fear that it may incur a huge expenditure.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Shabery said the tentative date for the SUKMA to be hosted in Kuala Lumpur next year has been fixed for June 28 to July 7.
