KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's world number one Datuk
Nicol Ann David strolled into the second round of the Women's World Open
in Cayman Islands, Sunday.
Nicol took 31 minutes to beat unseeded Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt in straight sets 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 and will be meeting Annie Au of Hong Kong in the second round match today.
"It was definitely a tough draw, for both of us. She's all there now, and when she's firing them in it really puts the pressure on you. If she'd taken that first game it could have gone any way, so I was pleased to finish that one, I really did not want to have a big struggle in the first round.
"Glad to take it in three, and really looking forward to playing on the glass court now, the setting looks really spectacular," said Nicol as quoted in the competition official website, www.worldopensquash.com.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's second ranked women squash player, Low Wee Wern defeated England's Sarah Kippax, a qualifier, with 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-5.
