KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Diving queen Pandelela Rinong and
national shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei were named men's and women
Olympian of the Year for 2012, respectively.
They received their award, which came with RM10,000 each, from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the 20th Olympian of the Year dinner, here Friday night.
Also present were the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar.
Pandelela and Chong Wei were chosen for the award by the OCM Executive Board for their performance at the London Olympics last July.
Sarawakian Pandelela, 19, became the first Malaysian woman athlete to bring home an Olympic medal by winning a bronze in the 10m platform.
Chong Wei, 30, from Penang, won a silver medal in the men's singles.
