Sukan Universiti Asean 2012 Dibuka Dalam Suasana Meriah


VIENTIANE, 12 Dis (Bernama) -- Upacara pembukaan rasmi temasya Sukan Universiti Asean (AUG) kali ke-16 berlangsung daalm suasana meriah dengan pertunjukkan bunga api dan persembahan kebudayaan tempatan di Stadium Kompleks Sukan Nasional, di sini, Rabu.

Lebih 1,600 penonton menyaksikan acara pembukaan kejohanan yang disertai 11 kontinjen dari Laos selaku tuan rumah, Malaysia, Singapura, Indonesia, Filipina, Vietnam, Kemboja, Myanmar, Brunei, Thailand dan Timor Leste.

Ia dirasmikan Perdana Menteri Laos, Thongsing Thammavong.

Malaysia buat julung kali menghantar kontinjen terbesar ke temasya sukan dwitahunan itu dengan 360 atlet dan pegawai dengan meletakkan sasaran 36 pingat emas.

Seramai 220 atlet negara menyertai acara perarakan kontinjen dengan penerjun negara Leong Mun Yee diberi penghormatan sebagai pembawa bendera negara Jalur Gemilang.

Sebanyak 245 pingat emas, 245 perak dan 387 gangsa membabitkan 17 acara sukan ditawarkan pada edisi kali ini -- terjun, renang, olahraga, memanah, badminton, bola keranjang, bola sepak, judo, karate, sepak takraw, ping pong, taekwondo, tenis, bola tampar, pencak silat, petanque dan muay thai.

Pada edisi 2010 di Chiang Mai, Thailand, kontinjen Malaysia meraih 37 emas, 36 perak dan 44 gangsa iaitu di tangga ketiga kedudukan pingat.

Tuan rumah Thailand mengungguli temasya dengan 58 emas, 61 perak dan 50 gangsa manakala Indonesia di tempat kedua dengan 46 emas, 51 perak dan 50 gangsa.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach. "After listening to the recording of the post-match press conference, we decided to drop the charge against Rajagopal as he did not make such a statement. "Maybe his (Rajagobal) assessment and comments of the match was misconstrued by the media.
