KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
Doping Control Centre is proactively taking measures to regain its
status as an international anti-doping laboratory after its
accreditation was suspended in 2010.
USM Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Dr M Jegathesan said the steps being implemented by the centre included restructuring the control centre administration in line with the conditions set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Apart from that, the centre which began operating in 1998 when Malaysia hosted the Commonwealth Games, was also upgrading its facilities and instruments as well as strengthening the centre's human resource management, he said.
"We are in the process of fulfilling the conditions in accordance with WADA's requirements.
"When all the measures are completed, we will present the application to WADA (to regain international anti-doping laboratory status)," he said when contacted Friday.
The USM Doping Control Centre became an international anti-doping laboratory for 15 years before WADA suspended its accreditation in June 2010 for not complying with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL).
