Sultan Ahmad Shah Appoints Hamidin To Succeed Azzuddin As Sec-Gen On July 1

PETALING JAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) vice president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin has been appointed to the post of FAM Secretary-general starting July 1.

Hamidin will succeed Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad who will be joining the Asean Football Federation (AFF) as its Secretary-general, replacing Datuk Seri Paul Mony Samuel who has decided to step down due to health reasons.

Hamidin's appointment was announced by FAM President Sultan Ahmad Shah during a press conference at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) base in Subang, near, here, Thursday.

"I am confident Hamidin can carry out the task of managing the FAM while he will have to resign from all other posts, including as FAM Local Competitions Chairman and the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) Secretary-general, with immediate effect," he said.

Meanwhile, Sultan Ahmad Shah who is also the AFF President said the government had approved a 3.24 hectare site in Putrajaya for building the FAM and AFF headquarters.

"I made a request to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and he has approved the application...for that I wish to thank him (Najib). I will discuss with the affiliates of AFF and FAM on the proposal since it involves a large sum of money," he said.

The FAM operates from Wisma FAM which was built in Kelana Jaya back in 1990 while the AFF operates from a rented building situated nearby.

Wisma FAM has been refurbished a number of times to provide accommodation for players who undergo centralised training while next to the building is a football field that will be used for the National team's training.

Meanwhile, Azzuddin's immediate task as the AFF Secretary-general would be to work on a proposal a joint bid by Asean countries to host the 2034 World Cup and the setting up of the Asean Super League (ASL).

Azzuddin who has held the post of FAM Secretary-general since 2006 would start as AFF Secretary-General on July 1, said the two proposals were among major agenda discussed at the AFF affiliates meeting in Phnom Penh, recently.

"I believe the setting up of the ASL is about 70 percent ready...the papers will be submitted to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for approval and assistance.

"Affiliates of the AFF are also united in their mission to uplift the status of football in Asean," he said.

There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
