Nicol Lancar Kempen 2014 Dengan Gelaran Juara-Juara

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Jan (Bernama) -- Ratu skuasy negara Datuk Nicol Ann David memulakan kalendar tahun baharu dengan langkah kanan apabila menjuarai Kejohanan Juara-Juara 2014 di New York, Amerika Syarikat.

Pada final di 'Grand Central Terminal', awal Sabtu, pemain nombor satu dunia itu menampilkan aksi cemerlang menundukkan pemain nombor dua dunia, Laura Massaro dari England dengan 11-4, 13-11 dan 11-8 dalam masa 45 minit.

Nicol, 30, yang merupakan juara dunia tujuh kali, berkata beliau gembira untuk merangkul kejuaraan tersebut walaupun terpaksa berjuang untuk mencari rentak pada set pembukaan.

"Pada set kedua, saya meningatkan diri untuk teruskan saingan sehingga ke penghabisan," kata ratu skuasy negara itu dipetik sebagai berkata dalam laman web kejohanan.

Sementara itu, pada final kategori lelaki, pemain Mesir, Amr Shabana, selaku pilihan ketujuh, merangkul gelaran apabila mengejutkan pemain nombor dua dunia, Gregory Gaultier dari Perancis dengan 11-8, 11-3 dan 11-4 dalam pertarungan selama 42 minit.

Ex-coach's jail sentence cut to a year

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal yesterday sentenced former athletics coach C. Ramanathan to 12 months' jail for molesting two junior athletes 19 years ago. A three-man bench led by Datuk Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus unanimously dismissed Ramanathan's appeal against conviction, but varied the jail sentence of four years to a year, which was to run concurrently. Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
