KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- World number one men's singles
player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei smashed his way to victory as he clinched
the Japan Open Super Series titles for the fifth time.
In the final match held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium today, the 31-year-old defending champion took 34 minute to dispose of eighth seed Hu Yun of Hong Kong with a 21-14 and 21-12 victory in the match which was telecast live by a local private television.
Chong Wei pocketed US$18,750 (RM60,346) for his feat while Hu Yun took US$9,500 (30,575) as first runner-up.
For the record, Chong Wei won the Japan Open title in 2007, 2010, 2012 and last year.
The result also consolidates Chong Wei's spot at the top of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Destination Dubai World Super Series rankings.
Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the World Super Series Finals in December this year after the country's national airlines, Emirates signed a three-year agreement with the BWF early this year.
The top 10 players of each five different categories will compete at the BWF World Super Series Finals to be held at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, starting this year until 2017.
The categories are men's and women's singles; men's and women's doubles and, the mixed doubles.
