PUTRAJAYA, June 22 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy
Jamaluddin is optimistic the national sepaktakraw squad has the
potential to win the championship at the SEA Games in 2017.
He said the target could be met if all parties, including the ministry and the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) made careful and systematic preparation.
"A target is meaningless if there is no effort to enable us to realise it. I am confident the national squad can bring back the championship cup for our traditional sport.
"We are not setting a high target at the SEA Games next year in Singapore because time is too short. So, the ministry and PSM will discuss a special programme to rebuild sepaktakraw," he said in his speech at the launch of the 2014 KFC-Utusan SepakTakraw Championship in Alamanda here.
In the meantime, Khairy stressed the sport needed a new touch involving all parties to turn the national squad into the number one team in the world.
"We have to accept the fact that being a traditional sport is not a guarantee the nation will have the best team in the sport," he said.
