Nicol Melangkah Ke Suku Akhir Terbuka Hong Kong 2014


KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Ogos (Bernama) -- Pemain skuasy nombor satu dunia, Datuk Nicol David meneruskan pencapaian cemerlangnya selepas menempah tiket ke suku akhir Terbuka Hong Kong 2014.

Pada pusingan kedua yang berlangsung di Pusat Skuasy Hong Kong, hari ini, Nicol selaku juara bertahan diberi tentangan sengit oleh pemain England, Emma Beddoes sebelum menang 11-4, 11-6, 8-11 dan 11-7 dalam 46 minit.

"Saya berasa selesa dalam dua set pertama tetapi beliau beraksi dengan cukup baik pada set ketiga...beliau menemui rentak dan tidak melakukan sebarang kesilapan. Saya tahu bahawa saya perlu memperkemaskan permainan dan berjaya merapatkan kembali dalam set keempat," kata Nicol seperti dipetik dalam laman web kejohanan; www.hksquashopen.com.

Ratu skuasy negara yang berasal dari Pulau Pinang itu kini mengintai kejuaraan Terbuka Hong Kong bagi kali kesembilan.

Nicol, 31, dijangka berentap dengan pemain bukan pilihan, Joey Chan pada perlawanan suku akhir.

Chan sebelumnya membuat kejutan besar dengan menundukkan pilihan ketujuh, Omneya Abdel Kawy dari Mesir 11-8, 13-11 dan 11-7 dalam satu lagi perlawanan pusingan kedua.

Nicol mencipta rekod apabila menjuarai Terbuka Hong Kong sebanyak lapan kali -- 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 dan 2013.

Bagaimanapun, pemain nombor dua negara, Low Wee Wern menerima nasib yang berbeza apabila tewas mengejut kepada pemain bukan pilihan dari Mesir, Nour El Tayeb dalam perlawanan yang mengheret ke lima set; 8-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-7 dan 5-11.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
