MELAKA, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Nine countries are expected to
participate in Round Two of the Istaf Super Series 2014/2015 to be held
for four days at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh
from Feb 5.
State Health and Sports Development committee chairman Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim said apart from Malaysia, countries participating in the tournament are Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Korea, Japan, Singapore, China and Thailand.
Ab Rahaman said the Super Series would feature two categories - men and women - and divided into two groups.
"In the men's category, Round One champion Thailand are drawn in Group A with Japan, Korea and Myanmar while Malaysia have been drawn in Group B with Singapore, China and Indonesia.
"In the women's category, Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam make up Group A while Thailand, Japan and Myanmar are in Group B," he said in a statement, here today in the presence of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
Thailand emerged as the Istaf Super Series 2014/15 Round One winners in the men's category at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar last month by beating Malaysia 22-20, 18-21, 23-21 in a closely fought encounter while Thailand also clinched the women's crown by beating Vietnam 21-18, 21-13.
