KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Bernama) - The National Sports Council (NSC)
has been directed to determine the new head coach of the national hockey
squad.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the matter had been communicated to NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.
National hockey coach Tai Beng Hai will continue to handle the squad while Neil Hawgood from Australia will remain as consultant," he told reporters after opening the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts (Mimma), here today.
Hawgood has been a consultant with the national hockey squad since the World Hockey League Second Round in Singapore in January.
Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who was supposed to name the new national head coach called off the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for Feb 13.
Regarding the Technical Director of High Performance Sports, Khairy did not rule out the possibility of a foreigner being appointed to the post.
"We have received many applications from qualified foreign candidates. I will interview them in the next two weeks to find the right candidate for the job," he added.
